Veischeder Sun Path

The hike along the "Veischeder Sun Trail" is not entirely undemanding. However, it rewards with magnificent views of charming half-timbered towns and vast fields and forests – and the "Lowwerhannes-Brotzeitbrett".
For those who are fit and sporty, the "Veischeder Sun Trail" in the Sauerland can be completed in one day. The circular route, which leads through the Veischede Valley in the Sauerland, is only 37 kilometers long. But it would be a shame if this did not leave enough time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings: for example, the view of the picturesque half-timbered villages nestled in the valley, or the vast fields and forests. One of the highlights along the way is also Burg Bilstein, which was built in the 13th century and is now used as a youth hostel. The castle courtyard is perfect for a picnic brought along. However, hiking groups can also take a break at the youth hostel by prior arrangement.
A special tip for refreshment along the way is also the "Lowwenhannes-Brotzeitbrett", which is offered at many establishments along the way. The snack is named after Johann II, the last noble lord who lived at Burg Bilstein and died in 1365. His spirit is said to still roam the forests around the castle today. Those who receive the snack get fresh Sauerländer Graubrot, homemade sausage and ham, and an herbal schnapps.
Since 2013, the "Veischeder Sun Trail" has carried the quality label "Quality Trail Hikeable Germany". Only 15 km from the BAB Sauerland line (A45), you will be welcomed by the gently undulating landscape of the southern Sauerland. Enjoy and discover imposing heights, the spicy, clear air, and the views into the valley with its charming half-timbered villages.
Hike from one place to another or the full circuit (approx. 10-12 hours), stop by or stay at one of the restaurants, hotels, or guesthouses of the Veischedetal gastronomy, where the friendly hosts will gladly welcome and serve you.
