Eifel loop Eagle's view

On this hike you get up close to eagles, circling in the air above you - with a view from the Oleftalsperre or a visit to the bird of prey station in Hellenthal.
The hike starts with "climbing" the Oleftalsperre. The reward is fantastic views over the reservoir and the surrounding hilly landscapes of the Eifel and the Oleftal. The Oleftalsperre serves to protect the surrounding communities from floods and for drinking water supply. It was built in the mid-1950s, the dam has a unique look due to the so-called pillar cell construction. The surroundings of the reservoir are characterized by alder gallery forests, tall herbaceous meadows, and bear's breeches meadows.
A highlight of the hike is the bird of prey station and the wildlife enclosure in Hellenthal - if you are out with children, you should definitely plan a visit here. From the fist-sized elf owl to the majestic Andean condor, you can experience many species of birds of prey and owls here. The birds are presented in free flight several times a day. If you watch the sky attentively, you can also spot eagles & Co. during the hiking tour in the air.
In the wildlife enclosure, especially young visitors can look forward to goats, sheep, donkeys, and pot-bellied pigs.
