From the public parking lot behind the Blomberg shooting hall, the route leads onto access road 5 of Nelkenweg out of town in an easterly direction and past various residential areas. Over the past 50 years, the city has expanded far into the landscape. The circuit can be mastered in both directions, the following is described in a counterclockwise direction.
The ascent to Bunerberg offers a first viewpoint of the city in retrospect. In the further course of the route, the land defenses laid between Blomberg and Siekholz are crossed several times. Access road 5 meets Nelkenweg "N" and Niedersachsenweg "X6" south of Siekholz at the main farm. Following the latter, the Schiederaner district of Glashütte lies on the steep path up to Herlingsburg. It is always worth circling the Iron Age rampart, especially since a shelter with an impressive view invites you to linger here. The route continues along the border between Lippe and Prussia. At the end of the circuit, the Burgensteig takes over and leads along the eastern foothill of Winterberg past scenic forest edges to Eschenbruch.
From Eschenbruch, an almost continuously wooded route follows almost all the way to Blomberg. Initially, the Burgensteig continues to set the direction. Following this, you come across "Am Turm", at the summit of the county road between Blomberg and Eschenbruch, where the relics of a Blomberg watchtower can be found. Noteworthy at this point, known as Teufelei or Hell, are the deeply incised sunken lanes of the Hellweg.
The route here leaves the Burgensteig and leads over access road 3 of Nelkenweg always slightly downhill to Forsthaus Blomberg. After a short ascent at the foot of Eichenberg, passing by the oldest and mightiest beech trees in the Blomberg city forest, you reach a botanical highlight, the semi-dry grassland at the western edge of Eichenberg. Among ancient trees, a remnant from the time of forest grazing, there are views into the Blomberg basin and beyond.
After the steep ascent to the summit of Eichenberg, a demonstration area is set up in the further course. Here, a forest that has died as a result of climate change is allowed to regenerate without human intervention. Going downhill around Bunerberg on the forest road, access road 4 of Nelkenweg takes over and leads back to the starting point.
From here, the historic city center of Blomberg is very close by. A stroll through medieval alleys and a visit to the local gastronomy are always worthwhile.
