Barrierefreie Route in Zittau „KULTUR“

The tour starts at the "Klosterplatz" stop on Kirchstraße and follows Klosterstraße northwards to a part of Zittau's municipal museums, the Cultural History Museum of the Franciscan Monastery, Klosterstraße no. 3.
It is the oldest city museum in Saxony and the Neisse Euroregion. More than 450 years of history of art and culture in the border triangle are preserved and presented here. "Among the special sights of the town of Zittau are two Lenten cloths that are unique in Germany. The Great Lenten Veil of Zittau from 1472 tells the story of God and mankind in 90 pictures. The small Zittau Lenten cloth from 1573 shows the crucifixion of Christ, framed by 30 symbols of his passion."
The Great Lenten Shroud is housed in a separate building: Frauenstraße 23, to which the tour leads via Klosterstraße, past the former Baugewerke school and via Prof. Kiesow-Weg. From there, the tour continues along Frauenstraße and then into the "Green Ring", past the crocus meadow to the Meissen porcelain carillon and the flower clock (Karl-Liebknecht-Ring, No. 9). The carillon was donated by Zittau craftsmen in 1966. In the summer months, a folk song sounds every hour on the hour. The flower clock was made in 1907 from the movement of an old tower clock and is planted with around 4800 flowers three times a year.
