Through the Büttel in the Südheide Gifhorn

Gifhorn - Winkel - Vollbüttel - Ribbesbüttel - Isenbüttel - Tankumsee - Gifhorn

This tour is called "Through the Büttelei" because many place names along the route have the ending "büttel". The old settlement word "bodal", later "büttel", means house and yard. The route leads among others to Ribbesbüttel, Vollbüttel and Isenbüttel.

Tip: Between Ribbesbüttel and Waldriedesiedlung is the Napoleon Bridge. According to legend, the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte once rode over this protected monument from the 18th century. It is part of the old trade and military road from Braunschweig to Lüneburg and leads in the south of Gifhorn over the Alte Hehlenriede.
