Hiking: Spiegelburg, Zella and Kaufunger Forest

From the Laubacher Straße via the mountain path "An der Schlede" and the Tränkeweg, this hike leads into the forest. When you reach the edge of the forest, first keep to the right and then right again, and after a few metres turn left onto the forest path. The trail follows the upper slope of the Glasebach stream, which ripples happily in the valley, crosses it and leads back into the valley on the other side of the slope. Halfway along, it is worth taking a look at the mighty Fricke oak. At the bend in the forest path, it is worth walking a few metres straight ahead into the forest. Some stone remains indicate the Spiegelburg - a small medieval castle that was built here from the 12th century onwards. In addition to the main castle, which probably measures 30 by 30 metres, there is a small outer castle for servants' quarters and stables. Incidentally, above the opposite slope of the Werra lies the Roman camp of Hedemünden, to which a ford through the Werra near Oberode also led. From the path at the Spiegelburg, the hike runs through the romantic Spiegelbach valley, which runs parallel to the Glasebach stream. The trail ends directly at the Werra and at the connecting road between Laubach and Oberode (turn left there), leads along this road for a short time and finally to the Zella inn. At the hikers' information board, the trail enters the forest on a forest path or almost parallel to it on the, albeit quite steep, Eselsstieg towards the Feldmark. When you reach the edge of the forest, the trail bends sharply to the right along the edge of the forest. Along this edge of the forest and finally through the Feldmark, the path leads back to the village.
