The Roman Canal hiking trail runs for 116 km along the Roman Canal from Nettersheim in the Eifel region to Cologne in the Rhineland. On four of the total seven individual stages, almost two-thirds of the way can be "hiked" in the Rhineland Nature Park.
Among the numerous sights in Rheinbach are also some sections of the Roman Canal that have been set up in the city. The canal once ran under today's Münstereifeler Straße and Bahnhofstraße. It's worth spending a little more time in the city, as you can discover some small treasures.
The region is also known for fruit growing, especially apple trees lining the paths around Rheinbach. Extensive apple plantations also stretch along the Roman Canal hiking trail - particularly in spring and autumn, a delight for all the senses! Villages are wandered through before entering a dense forest area and gradually approaching the Cologne area.
