Discovery loop Panorama trail House Unterbach

The Discovery Loop starts directly at the train station in Erkrath. From here you can reach the oldest settlement point via Bahnstraße: the Romanesque church of St. John. Via the Roman road, you head south first to the chapel of Heiligenhäuschen and then on to the Bruchhausen Nature Conservation Center, a nature conservation and environmental education facility in the middle of the Bruchhauser Feuchtwiesen wetlands of the city of Erkrath.

Along the way, an information board explains the magnificent view to the south over the Cologne Bay, the Ville and the edge of the Nordeifel. In good weather, an impressive panoramic view.

To the west of the Water Castle Haus Unterbach runs a very old road parallel to the Rhine: the Mauspfad. In the Neolithic period, it connected the Mediterranean with the North Sea. The houses Haus Unterbach, Gödinghoven, and Haus Morp provided protection along the way.

Haus Unterbach is a water castle located in Erkrath, listed as a monument with four towers and a manor house surrounded by a moat. Opportunities for visiting are available during the local festival held on the castle grounds.
