Eifel trail Tuscany of the Eifel

The juniper, the cypress of the north, is the star of this 16-kilometer hiking trail Eifelspur "Tuscany of the Eifel", which starts in Blankenheim-Ripsdorf. South of the municipality of Blankenheim lies the largest contiguous juniper nature reserve in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Lampertstal nature reserve, which is crossed during the hike, is an ecological gem of special value. Valuable habitats for flora and fauna have developed here through centuries of extensive grazing. They originated in the Middle Ages through forest clearances. The dry grasslands have shaped the landscape of the northern Kalkeifel for centuries and are among the most beautiful and regionally significant cultural biotopes in the Eifel.
Orchids bloom in early summer, gentians in late summer. Numerous insects populate the flower-rich grasslands of the limestone pavements. The Calvary Mountain rises above the landscape in the middle of the landscape. From there, the view sweeps far across the landscape. On the horizon rises the Hohe Acht, the highest mountain in the Eifel. Here you can feel the special magic of Calvary Mountain and forget at least for a moment everything around you.
