Chapel Loop - Villages, Chapels & Fruit Growing

The second chapel loop leads through remote places of the Pleiser Hügelland and shows lonely heights with diverse views and villages with lively traditions. After leaving Oberpleis, we climb to Hartenberg and pass by orchards on our way. On the plateau sits the small chapel, visible from afar. Here we meet the main route of the chapel hike, visiting five of the twelve chapels on our tour, with a wide view over the land to Siegburg and Oelberg. Descending into the valley, we are accompanied by tree nurseries and orchards as far as the eye can see. We follow the Pleisbach to Uthweiler, briefly walking along the main road where the next chapel, Michaelskapelle, awaits us. After leaving the buildings of Uthweiler behind, we turn onto the field path and reach the hill with Thelenbitze, then Pleiserhohn and Westerhausen, the highest point of the hike. In Pleiserhohn stands the beautiful St. Anna Chapel. Through meadows and fields, along the edge of the Eisbach nature reserve, we reach Eisbach with the Marienkapelle. From there, we descend past orchards to the Pleisbach and our starting point in Oberpleis. Along the way, we once again enjoy the great view back to Hartenberg and its chapel and tree as a landmark.
