Bad Honnef - Tretschbachtal

This challenging hike starts in the Bad Honnef district of Bondorf, often unfortunately with a search for parking, as narrow streets with half-timbered houses and restaurants attract visitors. Therefore, it's better to park a bit further away and walk a few extra meters. We follow the road into the valley, which soon turns into a forest path leading us to a shelter and ponds. At the shelter, we turn into the Tretschbachtal and take the forest path to the 'Dicker Stein' (thick stone), a signpost, and then turn left into the valley again. Along the stream, we find a narrow path with many wooden walkways and small bridges crossing the wet ground. The typical Siefental valley takes us steeply uphill, and once there, a circular path leads us around the Löwenburg castle. In the southeast, we find a steep ascent to the ruins, where an incomparable panoramic view stretches far into the country. At the foot, the Löwenburger Hof invites us to rest, and we come across the Rheinsteig trail, leading us towards Drachenfels down into the valley. Passing by Ölender, we reach the Breiberghütte, which offers a short ascent to the Breibergspitze peak. After the shelter, we follow the path downhill and encounter a wide forest path where we leave the Rheinsteig. Heading south, we reach the Heisemicher Hütte, where we turn and after a short forest path slowly turning into a trail, we take the footpath downhill to reach the Schaaffhausenblick, a newly renovated viewing platform. Directly below the platform, we take the path across the slope, return to the buildings, and after a few meters, turn left into the Finkenpfad, which leads us back.
