Eichsfeld border traces

At the southern edge of the Harz Mountains, near Duderstadt in the Eichsfeld region, lies the Green Belt, a unique natural area along the former inner-German border where one can experience the history of German division up close. Starting from the Eichsfeld Borderland Museum, the journey follows the former border strip to Gut Herbigshagen, where the famous wildlife filmmaker Prof. Heinz Sielmann and his wife established the 1st Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center in Germany. The hike concludes with a tour through the historic streets of the Duderstadt Old Town, featuring an impressive ensemble of richly decorated half-timbered houses and medieval fortifications.
