From the west, starting at Torfhaus, Goethe once set off to the Brocken. At the B4, there is already a beautiful view of the Brocken. The popular Goetheweg follows the Abbegraben. Goethe did not yet know this watercourse - it was built in 1827 and is now part of the new World Heritage Site "Upper Harz Water Management System". A wooden walkway leads through the Great Torfhaus Moor. Peat used to be mined here, today the valuable moors of the Harz are strictly protected. The path leads at the foot of the Quitschenberg to the Eckersprung. Now the hiker crosses the former inner-German border. The Goetheweg runs along the Brockenbahn at the Goethemoor. The forest clears, increasingly heath areas become visible. The hiker must cover the last stretch on the Brockenstraße. The Goetheweg is part of the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg.
