The circular tour is only 17 km long and perfect for families. It allows plenty of time for breaks and leisure fun. The tour starts in Suderburg. The traditional heath village has developed into a recognized university location. A detour from the main street via Hardau leads to St. Remigius Church with its simple and beautiful half-timbered hall building and the 1,000-year-old tower made of fieldstones. The church is a cycling church and reliably open during the day in summer. It provides space for breaks, drinking water, toilets, information on bike workshops, e-bike charging stations, and bike-friendly accommodations. Back on the main route, you cross the Hardau, a small heath river that accompanies you throughout the tour. At the southern edge of the village, on the road to Räber, lies the Suderburg Rieselwiese. It is a reminder of the sprinkler meadows that were once widespread here, which in the 19th century irrigated and fertilized the meadows in the Hardau valley in a novel way. Information boards explain how modern "irrigation" worked exactly. Next stop is the observation tower between Räber and Hösseringen. It is recommended to dismount from the bike and climb the tower. It was built for mobile communications and offers a public viewing platform at a height of 32 meters. Those who climb the 180 steps are rewarded with a panoramic view over the Suderburg region. The next destination is the heath village of Hösseringen. Here, a general store in the former classroom and treats in the café and bistro at Rasthuus Alte Schule await. After the break, the bike tour leads to the open-air museum just outside of Hösseringen. The open-air museum on the Landtagsplatz of the former Principality of Lüneburg tells in historical buildings and exhibitions about life and work in the heath. In addition, there are fields with old crops, a heath area with a discovery path, walking paths, and animals on the premises. The museum is also the starting point for the forest history trail "Schooten". The path leads through mixed forest with old trees. Information boards tell the forest history stories of the comic wild boar Sudl. Once your thirst for knowledge is quenched, you cycle back to Hösseringen and from there to Lake Hardau. Here, you can relax on the beach, grab a bite at the snack bar, swim in the lake, or take a pedal boat ride. From the lake, head back north to Suderburg, the starting and ending point of this tour.
