On the trail of the Balkan Express

Panorama Cycle Path Balkan Route: The name reminds of the "Balkan Express" - that's how the former railway line between Leverkusen-Opladen and Remscheid-Lennep was popularly known.

The Remscheid-Lennep train station is located on the edge of the historic city center with its almost circular medieval layout and protected buildings. For those thirsty for knowledge, a visit to the German X-Ray Museum is worthwhile.

On the former railway line, you can relaxingly cycle through the landscape without major inclines and traffic - urban life and rural idyll alternate. Only in Wermelskirchen does the route lead through low-traffic streets right through the town center. Along the approximately 19-kilometer route, milestones remind of the railway past, and there are rest areas and gastronomy at many places.
The last 10 km from Burscheid to Leverkusen-Opladen is a steady descent. In good weather, there are even views up to Cologne in some places.
