Westtour Location

On a route of approximately 21.7 km, this circular tour will take you through the western part of Lage. On this tour as well, you will start at the marketplace with its Ziegler Fountain, the historic town hall, and the market church. In addition, there is much more to discover, such as the "old castle" or Iggenhausen Castle. These highlights can be explored along the route:
Ziegler Fountain
The Ziegler Fountain in the middle of the marketplace is a symbol of the city's Ziegler tradition. From the 18th to the 20th century, the "Mäckelmakrt" was held here, where Ziegler craftsmen and masters concluded their contracts for the upcoming year from December to February.

Market Church St. Johann
The market church was built around 900 AD and consecrated to John the Baptist. It houses one of Lippe's oldest church bells. The Baroque organ is one of the best in Lippe and dates back to 1707.

The historic town hall
The historic town hall was built between 1863 and 1865. In 1904 and 1905, it was redesigned by the well-known Lagenser city architect Gustav Meßmann, as you can see it today.

Old Castle
The grounds of the "Old Castle" were once the residence of the first bailiff of Lage. In addition, there was a tannery located there. Today, remnants of the buildings from the 17th to 19th centuries have been made visible again, allowing visitors to glimpse into Lage's history. The square invites you to linger, where on the edge of the grounds, the arm of the "Alte Werre" merges with the "Werre".

Ohrsen
The municipality of Ohrsen, which combines the former independent hamlets of Ohrsen and Ehlenbruch, is one of the western border communities of the Lippe district. Its origins date back to the 9th century. The choice of location may have been influenced by the prehistoric road leading from Stapelager Gorge through Ohrsen to Schötmar. Around 900, the settlement likely already consisted of two manor farms. Ohrsen was first mentioned in writing around 1139 as Otherwardessen.

Iggenhausen Castle
The former castle is a medieval motte-and-bailey structure. In the park, you can find the region's oldest greenhouse, built in 1860. The manor house, which is still privately inhabited today, was built between 1856 and 1865 by the builders August and Friedrich von Blomberg. A historic landscape park with very old trees is located on the property.

Lage City Forest
The approximately 50-hectare area of the city forest, with its variety of tree species, orchard, numerous old trees, and deliberately left deadwood trees, is of ecological interest.

Peace Park
Located on Eichenallee, the Peace Park was established in the 18th century as the first cemetery outside the city center. Some remaining old tombstones are witnesses from that time. Today, a war memorial and a memorial stele made of red brick dominate the scene. The stele commemorates the fate of Lage's Jewish residents who were deported and murdered during the National Socialist era.
