Runenweg, X7

We start our tour at the Fürstliches Forsthaus Kreuzkrug in Schlangen at the Sennerand, and after a moderate climb to the Große Egge, we hike steeply downhill, passing the European Hiking Cross (E 1-R 1) to the Externsteine, an outstanding natural landmark in Germany. After crossing the historic town center of Horn with its castle built in the 14th century and the moor area "Stinkebrink," we reach the spa park of Bad Meinberg. In the Detmold area, the Leistruper Wald awaits us with natural monuments designated as several cubic meters large, imposing stone blocks - reading or sacrificial stones - estimated to be over 200 million years old. The path leads us, partly along the Passade, to the "Ortmühle," the center of Lippe. Across the Wiembecker Berg, with a view of Brake Castle, we stroll through the old Hanseatic city of Lemgo. Through the Staff-Landscape Park with wide views, we reach the Försterteiche, and after the steep ascent to Teimer (326 m), we reach the former water mill "Corves Mühle" in Hohenhausen in Kalletal. After overcoming the Rafelder Berg, we pass the Schlosskrug in Heidelbeck, mentioned as early as 1257. After a rest at the "Zweiländereck," we hike through a larger forest area to the Möllenbeck monastery complex, first built in 896 and one of the best-preserved late medieval monastic complexes in Germany. Our path runs south of the recreational facilities at the Doktorsee lake into the city of Rinteln. The beginnings of the city of Rinteln can be traced back to the late 11th century, and from 1619 to 1810, Rinteln was also a university town. The final hiking section takes us up to the Klippenturm at the Luhdener Klippen on the E 11 and Weserbergland-Weg, the goal of our hike.
