"Jossgrund Runde" Spessartfährte

The 11.7 km Spessart trail in the Jossgrund awaits hikers seeking happiness with a variety of impressions and delightful natural experiences. The slopes in the Jossatal valley, which are open up to higher altitudes, spoil hikers on this tour with their outstanding views.

The former moated castle gracefully welcomes hikers in Burgjoß. The imposing sight of its mighty castle wall lets your mind wander back to knightly times - a moment to dream. The path leads through the green meadow park of the castle grounds, out of the village, to the narrow riverside path of the Jossa. The narrow path meanders along the meandering, alder-lined river through the floodplain. The nocturnal beaver is also out and about here. The ascent up the stony mountain, with views opening up into the Jossa valley, is rewarded with impressive distant views to the south, to the surrounding wooded hilltops. The trail passes one of the rare juniper heaths of the Spessart - a preferred habitat of the adder. With idyllic views of narrow meadow valleys and wet meadows, the trail descends to the Zieglerfeld forester's lodge, through the Auragrund, until the path leads through alternating forest and meadow to the Schönberg, with wide views. The tranquil landscape in the Tiefental valley, with fresh meadows and rare fields, makes you forget the time. Through this old cultivated landscape, along rustic deciduous trees, the trail heads up the Zöllers mountain with its panoramic views. Hikers are led around the mountain over the open slopes, accompanied by fruit trees. After the deep valley views of the Jossgrund and Oberndorf, the path leads back along the bordered Jossa, with stone footbridges to the farm plots, into the ancient village center of Burgjoß. After this varied Spessart trail, hikers are greeted by pretty half-timbered houses - it's once again time to collect moments of happiness.

Tips and further information

After the tour, stop off at the Schafhof Café in the old Schafhof in Burgjoß, located right next to the Burgwiesenpark, and then learn interesting facts about the nature park in the Spessart shop window and shop at the regional counter.
