Hedge corridor path

The approximately 8-kilometer hike starts at Bachstraße in Eicherscheid. The picturesque village is surrounded by centuries-old field hedges and has a lot of charm inside as well. Listed half-timbered houses hide behind tall house protection hedges from the sharp Eifel winds, small chapels and wayside crosses characterize the village center. The parish church located at the starting point was built in 1933. Behind the cemetery wall, there are numerous old grave crosses from the 17th and 18th centuries. While they have long disappeared from other places, they can still be admired here in their special splendor.
You leave the idyllic Eifel village in a northerly direction and dive directly into the impressive field hedge landscape around the village. Over 100 kilometers, the sometimes centuries-old hornbeam hedges stretch across the fields. The trees, some of which are more than 300 years old, shape the landscape and were once used as boundary markers. They are a special landmark of the region and absolutely worth seeing! As "green and vibrant pasture fences," they still keep the livestock away from the fields today and provide protection from the wind. Simply follow the signposted circular path, experience the beauty of the landscape, and learn about the uniqueness of the Eicherscheid hedges at the seven information stations.
Also, enjoy the view over the Rur Valley at the Eifel viewpoint "Worbelescheed." From here, you can see the Schleiden highland villages Herhahn and Dreiborn as well as the huge wind turbines of the Schöneseiffen and Dreiborn wind parks.
