This bike tour takes you to the "Swinmark," a picture-perfect landscape with wide skies, golden fields, great people, and many legends. Disused water mills, old chapels, pine forests - all of this is still a hidden gem. The center of this diverse region in the southwest of Wendland is the village of Schnega. The route starts and ends at Schnega train station, which is located on the line between Stendal and Uelzen.
By the way - the name "Swinmark" does not, as is often mistakenly assumed, have to do with pig farming, but probably derives from the Slavic word "swin" as a term for a small stream or tributary of a river. Perhaps the name originated at the "Vörgodendeelsdag." Like in pre-Christian times, this harvest festival is still celebrated: the grain is mowed with a scythe, the farmer's bread is baked in a stone oven, and people dance in new garments.
