Burgbergweg
Count Volkwin von Schwalenberg moved his seat to the mountain spur above Schwalenberg in the first half of the 13th century. Old copper engravings from the 17th century show a closed hill castle on the unwooded mountain. The castle originally consisted of a keep, two stone residential towers or houses, a gate building, the brewery, in addition - for protection against raids - moat and wall. In addition, there was a outer bailey and several gardens in front of the castle. Over the centuries, the castle served as a widow's seat and paragium (inheritance endowment for noble children). Years of disputes between the owners of the lordship led to the decay of the castle. The buildings were partly used as a "source of building materials" and dismantled. The present castle mostly dates from the years 1627/28. In the period from 1911 to 1913, part of the south wing and the staircase tower were renewed in Neo-Renaissance forms.
On beautiful days, the "Count's view" and the viewpoint "Malereiche" below the castle offer a wonderful view over Schwalenberg to the ridges of the Teutoburg Forest and the Egge Mountains.
