Description by the author

The Sankt Wendeler Land panoramic trail offers pure enjoyment of the landscape and nature for almost 127 kilometers. Hikers experience a varied low mountain range landscape with a charming alternation of wooded hills and open cultural landscape and enjoy impressive viewpoints along the way.

The Panorama Trail is divided into 6 stages.

Stage 4 (Nonnweiler - Tholey, approx. 23 km)

The starting point for today's stage is Nonnweiler town hall. The route first takes you through Mariahütte, past Spillert to Gommsmühle. In Braunshausen, the route climbs up to the 584 m high Peterberg, one of the highest elevations in Saarland. Before embarking on the strenuous ascent, you can take a short break from the hike and treat yourself to a short break at the Peterberg leisure center with its summer toboggan run and slide paradise. The summer toboggan run is one of the longest runs in Germany and covers a height difference of 150 m over a distance of 1000 m. From the Peterberg chapel, a very scenic section follows with wonderful views of the Sankt Wendel region. We soon reach the source of the Nahe near Selbach. The Nahe rises idyllically in the forest until it finally flows into the Rhine in Bingen. Not far from the source is a small wildlife reserve with ducks, geese, peacocks, goats and deer, which is freely accessible all year round. There is also an adventure playground and the Nahequelle Trail, a premium hiking trail suitable for children.
Continue along a forest path to Hofgut Imsbach and its magnificent pond complex. Today, the estate, which had its heyday in the Napoleonic era at the beginning of the 19th century, is a landscaped park with a care farm. You can take a break at the estate or a few meters further on at the Johann-Adams-Mühle. The current mill building dates back to 1735 and houses a local history museum that is well worth a visit. Bread is still baked regularly in the 200-year-old oven. The route continues via Theley and the Schaumberg (573 m) towards Tholey.
