Seerundweg Talsperre Nonnweiler

The circular lake trail around the Nonnweiler dam starts at the dam and is 11.5 km long in total. At 96.5 hectares, the area of the dam is considerably smaller than that of Lake Bostal (120 hectares, maximum depth 17 m), but the dam is up to 45 meters deep. The water volume is therefore around 20 million cubic meters! As the lake serves as a reservoir for the drinking water supply, the water surface may not be used for any other purpose. The first 5.9 km of the lake trail also form the unique Nonnweiler Planetary Trail. The model representation of our solar system with a total of nine model planets, which are true to scale in terms of the size of the planets and their distance from each other, is impressive. At the starting point in front of the "sun", the route is explained on information boards. You walk past the individual planets and can internalize the dimensions of our solar system in this way. Panels at the individual stations provide information about our planets. The models of Mercury, Venus, the Earth-Moon model and Mars follow on the dam. A slight ascent on the circular dam path takes you to Jupiter, the largest model planet. From there you can enjoy the magnificent view of the fjord-like lake. The trail continues past Saturn and Uranus to the Prims reservoir. The astronomical cycle tour continues over the Prims barrier to Neptune and Pluto, the last planet in our system. We have now completed half of the route and cycle past the Züscher Hammer back to the starting point. The Züscher Hammer is an iron smelter from the 17th century. It is impressive to see how iron was smelted. The entire complex comprised a hammer mill, a smelter, an iron hammer and a charcoal barn. There is a small kiosk at the dam, which is open during the season.
