The 6th stage of the Danube-Zollernalb Trail leads from Gammertingen through wild and romantic valleys up over stony Alb plateaus to Winterlingen.
The stage begins in Gammertingen, charmingly situated in the Laucherttal valley. The Laucherttal valley with its adjoining Alb plateaus is a popular local recreation area. In the valley of the Fehla, a tributary of the Lauchert, there is no road noise or railroad lines, only cycle and hiking trails. The stream meanders along the valley floor, murmuring past reeds, bushes, meadows and quiet forests. Every season has its own scent and colors here. Then it's up to the Alb plateau. Stony fields dominate here. In several places, particularly beautiful in the Heutal valley near Harthausen, you will find the calcareous grasslands, juniper heaths and mighty willow beeches typical of the Alb.
Also worth seeing is the insect and herb garden in Winterlingen, a wonderful school project with a resting bench. Information about the "insect hotel" rounds off the stop and the breather. This stage ends in the municipality of Winterlingen, which is already part of the western Swabian Alb.
