Vast fields on gentle hills and in between: mysterious megalithic tombs, a magnificent Baroque church in the village of Voltlage, half-timbered houses, and pristine nature. A good starting point for the romantic circular route is the neo-Gothic St. Lambertus Church in Merzen. Those who embark on the 39 low-gradient kilometers clockwise from here will first reach the Wiemelsberg megalithic tomb near Ueffeln, one of the best-preserved megalithic sites far and wide.
Compare for yourself: Just before returning to Merzen, you will find the Steingräberweg at Giersfeld. During a short walk in the woods, you will discover nine more examples of Stone Age architecture here. A tip for a romantic picnic on the way: the lovely juniper grove in Plaggenschale.
