Description by the author

The nature along the Eider is diverse and impressive, with picturesque riverside landscapes, green meadows and rich wildlife ranging from birds and fish to rare plant species. The region around the Eider, especially the Stapelholmer Land, is also known for its rich cultural tradition, with charming villages and historic farms.

A majestic river in northern Germany, the Eider is a true jewel of nature. With a navigable length of around 88 kilometers from the Kiel Canal, it crosses the picturesque Eider-Treene-Sorge river landscape before flowing into the North Sea at the Eider barrage. A trip along the river offers visitors an unforgettable experience. The Eider rises near Schillsdorf, Schleswig-Holstein, and meanders through rolling hills, wide fields and idyllic villages in the Stapelholm landscape, previously interrupted by the Kiel Canal not far from its source. Green meadows grazed by sheep and cows stretch along its banks. It is not only a paradise for nature lovers, but also for birdwatchers, as it is home to numerous rare bird species. One of the most remarkable sights along the Eider is the imposing Dutch town of Friedrichstadt. Its historic houses are not only a symbol of the region's unique history, but also a popular photo motif for visitors. A paradise for water sports enthusiasts, the Eider offers canoeists and sailors a wide range of opportunities to explore the calm waters and enjoy the picturesque landscape. Anglers can try their luck for zander or eels, which are abundant in the river, along with many other fish species.
Whether on a walk along the banks, a boat trip on the river or simply observing the wildlife - the Eider promises unforgettable moments in the midst of unspoiled nature.
