Easy hike with picturesque Eifel panoramas
On the 5 km long circular hiking tour "Meuchelberg [29]" near Heimbach, you can enjoy magnificent natural paths and impressive views of the Eifel region, the spa town of Heimbach, the Heimbach reservoir, Hengebach Castle, and the Art Nouveau hydroelectric power plant. You can also see the popular Rursee. The ascent to the mountain is particularly rewarding in spring and autumn, when the trees, thanks to the lack of leaves, offer a clear view of the reservoir.
Idyllic Heimbach
The starting point of the hiking trail is the "Parkplatz Über Rur" in the tranquil Heimbach. Due to its population, the town is the smallest city in North Rhine-Westphalia. Visitors will not be disappointed: with its quaint half-timbered houses, the medieval Hengebach Castle, and its idyllic location on the edge of the Eifel National Park, Heimbach is the perfect starting point for excursions into nature. Eifel Loop and oak forests on Meuchelberg
Once you reach Meuchelberg, the so-called Eifel Loop awaits you. The extraordinary curved bench offers space for two people facing each other, reflecting communication during a hike. So, lean back with your companion and exchange thoughts about the picturesque panoramic views. On the southern slope, you can also see numerous shrub-like oaks. This unusual sight shows the remnants of the former coppice management. Trees were cut down just above the ground due to the high demand for firewood for charcoal burners.

Back in Heimbach, you can refuel in various cafes, bistros, or restaurants.
