The 542 m high Sattelberg is, so to speak, the focus of our circular hike, which takes us all the way around its foot. The longer part of the hike leads through open countryside with wonderful views and the shorter section through wide, well-tended woodland. But the wooded ridge of the 544 m high Bauersberg also greets you from time to time. A particular highlight of this circular route is Größau with its numerous wayside shrines in and around the village.
We leave Wolfersdorf in the center on the main road through a hollow path and walk along a farm track lined with trees and bushes until we come to a junction to the left (600 m). This is where the actual circular hiking trail begins, which we follow straight ahead through alternating meadows until we reach the forest.
At the edge of the forest, we leave the road straight ahead and walk along a natural path in the forest, which now becomes steeper and then continues uphill through alternating sections of forest with two ups and downs. Once we have reached the top, we leave the forest again and continue downhill, enjoying the magnificent view of Größau, Posseck, the wooded areas interspersed with wide meadows and the Haßlachtal valley with Rothenkirchen along the entire route. On the way, we pass four sandstone martens and a game reserve.
Finally, we reach Größau. In the somewhat remote and pretty village at the foot of the wooded, 642 m high Sattelberg, we see historic buildings from the 18th/19th century. The village was renovated in 2004.
After looking around the village, we walk along the lower road out of the village and turn left onto the paved road about 400 m after the village sign. As far as the forest, we walk past a field barn and a residential building on the edge of the forest. At the foot of the Sattelberg, we walk steadily downhill on a pleasant forest path. When we leave the forest, we turn left at a property and continue our hike to the left on a farm track that is closed to public traffic. We pass the site of a former poultry farm. The wooden building at the other end houses numerous treasures reminiscent of the former coal mining industry in and around Stockheim. We are accompanied for a while by the alder-lined course of the Größau in a rustic valley landscape.
Soon the view opens up into the wide valley of the Haßlach, which takes in the water of the stream. The slopes of a mountain range, bare in 2023, greet you from the opposite side, closing off the valley. The picturesque villages of Neukenroth and Stockheim lie in front of us and soon Wolfersdorf. The path continues along the edge of the valley in the same direction. However, before we reach the road, we leave our path to take another paved path uphill to the left, which soon turns into a comfortable, flat field path. The view of the valley becomes wider and more impressive. We continue straight ahead until we reach the point just before the hollow path where we started our hike.
We continue along this familiar route to the right, back to Wolfersdorf, the starting point of our hike.</p
