Are you considering walking the Wilderness Trail? Or are you just curious about the four stages of this nature experience offer? Below, you will find detailed information about the routes. If you complete the full trail, you will face 1,891 meters of ascent and 2,251 meters of descent.

In large parts of the national park, nature is already left to itself. Here, true wilderness arises. However, before there can be talk of an area-wide wilderness, quite a bit of time must pass. The Eifel National Park is a "development national park" that has only existed since 2004. We therefore ask for your understanding regarding some still quite wide paths or inevitable work in the forest (such as restoration work or the removal of non-native trees).

The development towards the wilderness of tomorrow is an exciting process that you will experience up close during a hike through the national park!

Trade your daily life for flowing streams, fragrant flower meadows, deep forests, and far-reaching panoramas over the wilderness of tomorrow. During four daily stages covering a total of 85 kilometers, the Wilderness Trail winds through the wild beauty of the Eifel National Park. From Monschau-Höfen in the south to the most northern point at Hürtgenwald-Zerkall, the trail showcases the scenic diversity of the approximately 11,000-hectare National Park. The daily stages range from 18 to 25 kilometers and can be partially shortened.

The large Eifel National Park, established in 2004, is still considered a "national development park": Protected areas in this category have 30 years to let at least three-quarters of the area grow without human interference - only then do they meet the international criteria for a national park. But even now, the motto of the national park is "let nature be nature." This means that humans leave nature to its own laws again. On the Wilderness Trail, you remain close to the exciting process of the emerging wilderness!

Explore the region
As an alternative or addition to a continuous four-day hike, you can discover the region during a "lazy day": Swimming pools, friendly small towns, and attractions such as the National Park Center Eifel with the 2000 square meters, barrier-free interactive exhibition “Wildness Dreams” invite you to visit.

You can find information and event tips at the visitor forum Vogelsang and at the national park gates with tourist services and small national park exhibitions. Admission is free.

Path obligation – Stay on marked paths.

Leash requirement – Keep your dog on a leash.

Gathering prohibition – Take only impressions and observations.

No smoking and no fires.

Prevent noise.

Take your waste back with you – litter does not belong in nature.

Ride only on the designated paths.

Camping and other overnight stays – even in a camper – are prohibited. Use the designated places in the vicinity of the national park.

Due to the increasing number of old trees in the national park, branches and trees may fall on the paths here – more often than in other forests. Especially during storms, snow, and thunderstorms, for your own safety, you must not enter the forest or must leave it as quickly as possible.

The 33 square kilometer Dreiborner Plateau in the Eifel National Park: Until the end of 2005, this area was actively used as a "military training ground Vogelsang".
For your own safety, leaving the marked paths is prohibited, as there are life-threatening dangers from weapons or unexploded ordnance off the paths.
