The Little Mermaid (in Danish: den lille havfrue) is a bronze statue on a rock in the harbor of Copenhagen, in Churchill Park. It is a representation of the character from the eponymous tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
It is the symbol and the main tourist attraction of Copenhagen.
The relatively small size of this statue (it is only 1.25 m tall and weighs 175 kg), and especially its proximity to the shore, often surprises tourists.
It was commissioned in 1909 by Carl Jacobsen, founder of the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek and son of the founder of Carlsberg breweries.
