We are faced with one of the hospitals founded during the time of the Catholic Monarchs in Málaga, and it is one of the three oldest in its category at the national level. The building was constructed in 1505 by Diego García de Hinestrosa on the land that was gifted to them by the Monarchs. Hinestrosa was a noble knight who founded the hospital as a charitable institution. Before the earthquake of 1884, the building was in the Gothic-Mudejar style, but it had to be demolished to be rebuilt, taking inspiration from its architectural style. The chapel was preserved, as well as the wooden ceilings and the works of art it housed. It specialized in treatments for eye diseases. It is awaiting the opening as a cathedral museum.
