Palau-saverdera

Palau-sacosta was a municipality in the Gironès region that was annexed to the municipality of Girona in 1963. Palau-sacosta was annexed to Girona by decree dated December 20, 1962. On June 30, 1963, while Mr. Ramon Busó was the mayor of Palau, the mayor of Girona, Mr. Pere Ordis, signed the corresponding diligence in the minutes book of the Palau-sacosta Town Hall.
The former municipal area of Palau-sacosta extends across both slopes of the mountain range that closes off the plain of Girona to the south, on the left bank of the Onyar, which partially forms the southeastern boundary of the area. It also occupies part of this plain and has become one of the expansion areas of the city of Girona. The municipality included the nuclei located in the lower part: the neighborhoods of Rutlla and Avellaneda along the road from Barcelona to Girona, and the old village, centered around the parish church dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. It is irrigated by the Onyar and by several streams of this river and the Güell, which touches the western boundary of the area. It is crossed by the N-II road, the C-65, and the railway line from Barcelona to Portbou.
