Church of Santa María la Blanca

The church of Santa María la Blanca in Villalcázar de Sirga, also known as Santa María de Lito, is a temple-fortress that began construction at the end of the 12th century, during the transition from Romanesque to Gothic, and was completed in the 14th century. A milestone on the Camino de Santiago, it has been one of its most important religious centers and is linked to the Order of the Temple. It has great artistic interest, with the most outstanding elements being the sculptural group of the portal, proto-Gothic from the 13th century, the collection of polychrome tombs inside, Gothic from the 13th and 14th centuries, and the main altarpiece, Gothic from the 15th and 16th centuries.
