Bayo House

The Casa Bayo, or House of the Retamales, is a building located in the Spanish city of Teruel, in Aragon, which has the status of Well Cataloged of the Aragonese Cultural Heritage.

The "Bayo" House, also popularly called "Los Retales" House, was built around 1901 and, although there is no documentary evidence, all specialists attribute its project to the Tarragona architect Pablo Monguió, author of the most important modernist buildings in Teruel, located in the Plaza del Torico and of which this house is a magnificent precedent. The building is located in the historic center of the city, occupying an irregular plot with a triple façade to Plaza Bretón and Abadía and Valcaliente streets. The built volume occupies the entire plot developing in basement and five floors organized around a central courtyard. The facades have a unitary treatment plastered in ultramarine blue combined with ornamental details in white. The composition follows a traditional scheme structured by horizontal imposts at the height of the slabs, between which the balconies and windows are arranged in a proportionate and homogeneous way. The two corners are solved by chamfers in which spectacular flying viewpoints made of wrought iron stand out. [1]​
