TOSSA LIGHTHOUSE

At the highest point of the old town, right above a cliff that rises about 70 m above sea level, we find the Far Tossa lighthouse, which dates back to 1917. At this point, there used to be a medieval watchtower that, unfortunately, has not survived.
If you stroll along the Paseo de la Vila Vella along the coast, passing by the ruins of the Església Vella de Sant Vicenç, you will reach the lighthouse. Inside, a museum has been set up that provides extensive information about the history of maritime signals. The organized visit to the museum, which includes various short films and exhibitions, offers a thorough historical review that showcases the first beacons and lighthouses and continues to show the subsequent development of this technique, as well as giving testimony to the life of the lighthouse keepers. However, it is advisable to have some interest in this topic or to possess some prior knowledge to fully enjoy the visit.
We recommend that those who are not particularly interested in this topic sit in the café next to the Far Tossa to have a coffee or a refreshing beer while enjoying the relaxing views over the great blue.
