The earthquake of Castellciutat took place in February 1714 during the War of the Catalans, the last military campaign of the War of Spanish Succession in Catalonia.
During the War of Spanish Succession, General Josep Moragues i Mas was governor of the Castle of Ciudad. By the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, the allied troops pledged to evacuate Catalonia, a process that began on June 30, 1713, and on September 28, General Moragues surrendered to the Bourbon forces. At the end of January 1714, Vallejo and his regiment traveled through El Solsonès and L'Urgell, where they forcefully repressed the population.
