Castle of San Marcial de Rubicón de Femés

The Castle of San Marcial de Rubicón, of the Coloradas or Eagle Tower, is a defensive tower located in the town of Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza on the island of Lanzarote.

In response to the constant incursions of Berber, English, and French pirates that devastated Lanzarote and Fuerteventura's coasts since the 16th century, Governor Andrés Bonito Pignatelli promoted the construction of defensive towers. This work was entrusted to the engineer Claudio de L'Isle, who in 1741 decided to place one of them at the Punta del Águila, a promontory that reaches a height of about 15 m above the mean tide level from which nearly the entire coast of the Bocaina Strait can be dominated. By 1742, this tower had already been erected.[1]​
