Baluarte de la Candelaria - Cadiz

This bastion was built in 1672 to protect the natural entrance to the port of Cádiz . It has a pointed shape to cope with the force of the sea . It served as a barracks, engineer's residence and dovecote for the pigeon service of the Korps Engineers.

A series of casemates line the side of the outer walls, and the enclosure is bordered by two 19th-century pavilions. On top of the wall rises a bay with gun ports , the upper part of which is the footbridge. The complex is enclosed on the city side by various outbuildings, such as the guard house, the pump house, etc.

Restoration work was carried out at the end of the 19th century. After the restoration, it has been given a cultural destination . It has a hall called "Tia Norica", which is used for exhibitions, as well as a large courtyard with palm trees where concerts, plays and carnivals are held.
