Puerta del Viento - Ronda

This city gate is located on the steep access road from the Mirador La Hoya del Tajo to Ronda. Most photos of Ronda's famous bridge are taken from this mirador .

The restored gate was built in the Merinid period, but due to the major changes made during the Christian era, this monument is largely the work of the Castilians of the new Castilian settlers (between the 16th and 17th centuries ). It is one of the city gates in the wall around Ronda.

The western part of the city walls of Ronda is located in the western sector of the city and consists of two parts of the wall: the Albacara wall, whose function was to protect the productive areas of the city (mills) and shelter the livestock in case of danger (on this front is the Puerta del Viento, to the south, as well as another gateway to the medina, the Puerta de los Monios or Puerta del Cristo, to the north). Another section of the wall enclosed the side between the Albacara and the southern sector.
