He was a Venezuelan politician, soldier, diplomat, writer, humanist, and ideologue , considered a forerunner of American emancipation against the Spanish Empire . Known as the first universal Venezuelan and the most universal American, he participated in United States independence and in the French Revolution , an event in which he played a leading role and earned the title of Hero of the Revolution.
Later he was a leader of the Patriots at Venezuela's independence and ruler of the First Republic of Venezuela as dictator-plenipotentiary and supreme head of the Venezuelan states.
