El pozo de las flores - Cordoba

Source: Willem Vandenameele

Description

This sculpture was placed by the city of Córdoba as part of the 'parios de Cordoba' project.

It is a group of two figures, a grandmother and her granddaughter , depicting a traditional moment during the tending of the flowerpots in their courtyard and symbolizing the so-desired generational transmission that perpetuates the typical date of the Cordoban May Days. El pozo de las flores is the name of this third work by the Cordonesian sculptor José Manuel Belmonte.

The protagonists represent a grandmother sitting with a pot on her knees where you can see her cleaning the leaves, and the granddaughter standing in front of her with a flower on her chest. In addition, the set is completed by a pit between the two, some bars with pots in the background and an empty rush chair designed in such a way that visitors can sit on it , enter the work and photograph themselves in the scene, something the author indicates as a "promotion" for the city.

These new figures complete a trilogy of works scattered around Córdoba . The first was presented in 2014 and corresponds to the janitor watering her plants on Puerta del Rincón . The second work is from 2015 and is located in the Alcázar Viejo. It consists of a grandfather and his grandson (the last one on a ladder) in another irrigation scene.
