When one enters the church of Santiago, the view is impressive, due to the austere shapes and the predominant white of the temple. It's not a big ship; in fact, the chancel at the foot of the church takes up a lot of space.

Its origins date back to 1236, when the monarch Fernando III conquered the ancient capital of al-Andalus.

In 1555, the architect Hernán Ruiz II built the bell tower by incorporating the old Islamic minaret , which can still be seen in the temple today, being the only one of the Fernandine churches that, together with the minaret of San Juan and that of the church of San Lorenzo has been preserved. It would be the oldest minaret in the city , except for the scant remains of the first minaret of the Mosque of Córdoba.

The medieval door, located on the very narrow Calle Ronquillo Briceño, is hardly comfortable to see.
