The monument to Joselito El Gallo was placed to commemorate the centenary of the legendary bullfighter 's death.
Joselito, dressed in light, “on his last walk to the glory of Macarena,” as described by his sculptor, Manuel Martín Nieto of Morón, stands on a pedestal of granite and green marble, where his Macarena brotherhood pays tribute to him with this inscription:µ
“To José Gómez Ortega, 'Joselito El Gallo', exemplary Macareno brother, king of the bullfighters and hero of the people, dedicated to the most deprived, generous benefactor of this Brotherhood and of the Macarena neighborhood, and fervent devotee of the Holy Virgin of Hope. The Brotherhood of the Macarena in eternal recognition and gratitude.”
The world of bullfighting experienced its splendor at the beginning of the 20th century and one of the greatest, if not the most important, was José Gómez Ortega , although he has gone down in history as “Josélito el Gallo”.
