Priego de Córdoba is known as the water town for the many springs that spring in the area and it is a jewel of Córdoba's Baroque era for its large number of Baroque-style buildings.
This city walk is part of a series of city walks and tours described in Day trips in central Andalusia: Cádiz - Jerez-de-la-frontera - Pueblos-Blancos - Córdoba - Granada
Free parking Calle Lozano Sidro or a little further in the parking of the Mercadona (paying) Pl. Palenque 2.
The old town of Priego de Córdoba is especially interesting. If you want to skip the 2 km it takes to see the uninteresting exterior of the bullfighting arena, you can walk straight after the Ermita del Calvario to the Parroqui Santa Maria Trinidad by turning right instead of left on Calle Carmen.
We start in the direction of the Parque del Rey with its beautiful fountains. We walk a little longer to the ancient public washing place and return.
Via the curious Cruz del Sto. Cristo we arrive at the pilgrimage site of Ermita del Calvario .
We pass an old Roman ceramic kiln Horno cerámica árabe on the grounds of a school.
Those who do not want to do the part to the bullfighting arena deviate from the route here as described above.
We walk along the beautiful park Parque de los Juzgados to the bullring .
Along the Av. de Espana we now walk towards the old town. We take a detour to the Ermita Virgen de Belén and arrive at the Carnicerías Reales, a slaughterhouse and market from the sixteenth century.
Along the Plaza San Pedro with the church of the same name we now arrive at the Castillo and the Torre Homenaje de Priego.
Via the Vial del Castillo we can take the lift to the park La huerta de la Infantas. We return and pass the Parroquia de Ntra. sr. de la Asuncion. We now arrive in the Barrio de la Villa , beautiful old medieval streets and squares.
We are now on the edge of the city and at the Mirador del Adarve we get a beautiful view of the surroundings. A little further is the Balcón del Adarve on the beautiful city park on the Paseo Colombia. We continue to the Ermita de Ntra. sr. de la Aurora y San Nicasio to the Plaza de la Constitución with the town hall.
Back to the parking lot we pass the Iglesia Virgen de las Angustias and the Iglesia Virgen de las Mercedes.
Be sure to consult the information about the sights once you are on site . They explain what you will see!
