GR-114. Stage 09. Las Casas-Valverde

The stage 09 of the GR-114, known as Las Casas-Valverde, extends for 18.7 kilometers in the beautiful region of Castilla-La Mancha. This medium-difficulty route offers hikers the chance to explore a varied landscape while immersing themselves in the rich history of the area. Along the route, walkers have the opportunity to approach the Electoral District of Ciudad Real, an important electoral district that is part of the Spanish political system. Ciudad Real, as one of the 52 electoral districts, plays a fundamental role in representing citizens in the Congress of Deputies and the Senate. Furthermore, the route is located near the site of the Battle of Ciudad Real, a significant engagement that took place between March 26 and 27, 1809. This conflict pitted Napoleonic armies against Spanish forces, marking an important episode in the Spanish War of Independence. Hikers can reflect on the history of this battle while traversing the ground where intense fighting once took place. The route features a cumulative elevation gain of 247 meters, allowing for panoramic views of the natural surroundings and the typical architecture of the region.
