GR-220. Stage 06. Oteiza/Oteitza-Zubialdea Picnic Area

Stage 06 of the GR-220, which goes from Oteiza to Merendero de Zubialdea, offers a challenging and enriching experience in the heart of Navarra. With a length of 18.0 kilometers and a cumulative elevation gain of 556 meters, this route is considered of high difficulty, ideal for those looking to test their endurance and enjoy the natural beauty of the region. Along the way, hikers have the opportunity to explore the town of Zabaldica, a council that is part of the municipality of Esteríbar. Furthermore, the route is located near an important historical site: the Escape from the San Cristóbal Fortress. This event, which took place on May 22, 1938, during the Spanish Civil War, is remembered as one of the most significant escapes in history, both for the number of prisoners who managed to flee and for the repercussions it had on the conflict.
