GR-223. Stage 11. Ciutadella-Cap d'Artrutx

Stage 11 of the GR-223, which connects Ciutadella with Cap d'Artrutx, offers a rewarding hiking experience on the beautiful island of Menorca. With a length of 13.1 kilometers and a moderate difficulty, this route is ideal for both experienced hikers and those looking to enjoy a day outdoors. The route begins in Ciutadella de Menorca, a city that reflects its rich history through its narrow streets. One of the most prominent points of interest is the Plaza de Alfonso III, where remnants of Arabic occupation and the subsequent reconquest at the end of the 13th century can be observed. In this place, Alfonso III of Aragon ordered the fortification of the city, an event that marked a milestone in local history. As you progress along the route, you will encounter Ses Voltes, one of the most iconic streets in Ciutadella. This urban space, characterized by its arches, connects the plaza Nova with the heart of the city and offers a glimpse into the architectural style that has endured over the centuries. The route continues along the coast, where the sound of the water and views of the Mediterranean Sea will accompany you every step of the way. Along the journey, a total of 60 meters of elevation gain are overcome, allowing for different perspectives of the coastal landscape. Upon finishing the stage at Cap d'Artrutx, you will be rewarded with the sight of the lighthouse that stands at this point, a symbol of navigation and the maritime history of Menorca.
