Le Ballon d’Alsace is a must for any biking enthusiasts. The highest peak is the most southerly of the mountains of the Vosges. The “Giant of Alsace” or “Big Blue” is listed as the first pass crossed by the riders of the Tour de France.
It was here that cyclist Eddy Merckx destroyed all hopes of his competitors during its first participation in 1969.
