Within the walls of the abbey, Marshal Ferdinand Foch sought peace and reflection during the First World War. The Cistercian abbey on the Katsberg (Abbaye du Mont des Cats) was established there by Belgian monks in the 17th century, but destroyed during the French Revolution. In 1826 the monastery was rebuilt. The Trappists of the abbey make a cheese, the Abbaye du Mont des Cats, which is comparable to the Port Salut.
