Herzeele is a French commune located in the Nord department, in the Hauts-de-France region. The bocage and the meadow have greatly diminished in Houtland in the second half of the 20th century, due to the land consolidation that accompanied and enabled intensive agriculture, particularly in Herzeele, but there are still a few relics, one of which has justified the status of a regional natural reserve in the commune: the regional natural reserve of the valley of the Petite Becque. This reserve is one of the elements on which the commune and the region can rely for the restoration of a network of biological corridors known in France as "green infrastructure," since the Grenelle Environment conference.
